Ah Gong:
As I was clearing my files in the laptop, I came across this photo folder ‘My Beloved Grandfather’s wake’. Upon opening the files and going through the 56 photos, tears just kept on rolling down. I really miss you alot!!!! You left us too sudden, and up till now I cant accept the fact that you’re gone for close to 3 years. Every single time when I were to think of you, I will cry and ‘talk’ to you in my heart hoping that you can ‘hear’ me. Time really passes and 3 years has gone by, but these 3 years seems like 3 slow years. Maybe I’ve never really let anyone knows how much you dotes on me, so this post is specially dedicated to you and hopefully you can ‘see’ it.
Since young, I’ve been living with my paternal grandparents unlike my 2 younger sisters whom they lived with my grand-uncle. Every morning, Daddy will bring me to my grandparents’ house at Tiong Bahru as early as 7am, then Daddy will go to work as a deliveryman. At about 9am, I’ll sit those kinda of tricycle riden by an old ah pek to school at Redhill. I’ll finish school at about 2pm, then you will ride your motorbike to pick me up. Sometimes, we’ll go to Chinatown to have lunch then we’ll go back home. I remembered vividly once because of me, you was being booked by a Traffic Police; got fined and demerit of points. All because I was only 3 years old that time when you fetched me around, and I was too young and its against the law, but you still rode me to wherever I wanna go after that incident. As Daddy were the first few to get married, and then all the uncles and aunties subsequently got married and gave birth to my little cousins. As the group grew larger, you knew that you could no longer ride your motorbike to fetch all of us anymore. So we came to a point where all of us will take a bus to shop at the supermarket for a few hours, and then we’ll take another bus back home to cook. You, Xiao Gu-Gu, San Chek, Ah Chim, Ah Pek, Doreen, Cindy, Belinda Jie Jie, Ann Jie Jie, Joanne, Ah Yan Kor Kor, Ah Cheng Jie Jie and Me will just take a bus regardless of the weather every Sunday.
I gained alot of knowledge and had the most achivements when I’m 3. At 3 years old, I know how to hold onto Ah Gong when he’s riding. At 3 years old, I know how to ride a 2-wheels bicycle. At 3 years old, I know how to sit the ‘pirate ship’ without being scared. At 3 years old, I know how to eat spicy stuffs including laksa and mee siam. At 3 years old, I know how to watch WWF (World Wrestling Federation) every Saturday night. At 3 years old, I know how to fix back the wires and adapters when Daddy were to always dismantle it to prevent me from watching TV. At 3 years old, I know the way from Tiong Bahru to Great World City back and fro. All these I know is because of MY BELOVED AH GONG! You taught me all these, and love me more than your other grandchildren because I’m always sticking to you.
Every Sunday, you’ll bring me to Chinatown Market very early in the morning to shop for groceries for dinner that night. You’ll buy live frog legs back to cook for me every weekend, and you’ll also buy live fishes back to cook porridge or soup for me Thanks to you, now I wont feel tired after hours of shopping in Orchard. Thanks to you, my skin is fair and doesnt need any whitening products. I want to say ‘Thank You’ to you, AH GONG! You made me what I am today, and taught me all those things that a grandfather wouldnt taught his grand-daughter.
I’ve gotten my license about 2 years back, and am helping Daddy to run this business with Bobby; my boyfriend. We’ll strive hard and help Daddy earn lots of money, you dont have to worry abit. Though the economy is really bad now, we’ll still surviving with our profits in the past. I’ll keep in mind all those you’ve taught me and use it well now and in the future. We just had dinner with Ah Ma last Sunday at Tiong Bahru, did you see us? Really hope that u’re living well with Ah Chor & San Chek, I’ll join all of you in heaven soon. Must wait for me, okay? We’ll live our lives like before, and I can imagine the smile on ur face when u see me. Help me send my regards to Ah Chor and San Chek, and must let them see this too. I REALLY LOVE YOU TOO MUCH!!!

At that time, this little girl Valarie was your only great grand daughter. But now, there’s another great grand daughter named Valene.

This is Valene, isnt she chubby and cute like her elder sister Valarie? Doesnt they look alike, Ah Gong?

These 2 are Robin and Regan, xiao gu-gu’s sons. Ah Gong, u’ve seen Robin before when he’s very young. Both of them are very healthy, though abit skinny. I’ve bought a few CNY clothings for them to wear on your behalf.

You were lying so ever peacefully inside. The bowl of rice below you were still white.

But on the day of sending you off, it turns to orange-pink in colour. This means that the descendnts will lead a good life and earn lots of money.

Everyone paying repects to you, letting you rest in peace.

Ah Gong, u see how much everyone loves and respect you? Look at all the scrolls and wreaths everyone sent to you. U still remember that there’re too many scrolls and wreaths by the 2nd day that we’ve to set up 3 more tents just to put all of them.

Ah Gong, it was raining so heavily on your sent-off day. Everyone kneel down and pray for 5 mins in front of you, asking you not to rain so heavily cause there’re too many young kids like PeiPei, Raymond and Janet sending you off. Xiao Gu Gu was having her confinement that time, so she couldnt send u on ur last journey, we knows that you dotes on xiao gu-gu the most out of all ur children. So we called xiao gu-gu and asked her to talk to you, putting the handphone next to ur face, asking you not to rain so heavily, so as to let us send u off. But alas, u rained even heavier. So Daddy went infront of your altar and kowton on the wooden plank so hard for 3 times till his forehead bleeds, u still remember? And almost everyone including those bystanders were crying when they saw all these. Above are the photos to show.

It was still raining very heavily when we sent you off.

Everyone of us were drenched and clothes were all wet, and all of us didnt want to take umbrella at all. We believed that the heaven were crying, so the rain didnt stop even until we reached back home. At the last photo, Daddy was seen carrying your photo.
